About Trade Winds
Trade Winds is a live 3D map of global capital flows. It shows money moving between the world's financial centers as animated wind-like streams on a globe, with live stock and crypto prices. It is free, needs no account, and runs in any modern browser.
Why a globe?
Markets are usually shown as tables and line charts. Those tell you what a price did, not where the money went. Capital is geographic: it leaves one exchange and arrives at another, it follows the sun from Tokyo to London to New York, and it piles into a handful of corridors. Trade Winds draws those corridors the way a weather map draws wind, so you can read the whole system in one glance: which centers are attracting capital today, which are losing it, and how big each route is relative to the rest.
What is on the map
Eighteen financial hubs (New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Frankfurt, Paris, Toronto, Sydney, Mumbai, Shanghai, Dubai, São Paulo, Zurich, Seoul, Taipei, Amsterdam, Riyadh), the main index for each, 300 of the world's largest companies plus selected mid-caps pinned to their headquarters, and the largest crypto assets. Four asset classes flow between them: equity, bonds, FX and liquidity, and crypto. Each stream's density, width and speed scale with dollars per day.
How live is it?
Stock and crypto prices come from Finnhub and refresh every 2 minutes through a small relay, so the site stays free no matter how many people open it. Index levels and the dollar size of each flow are simulated for illustration: they move like real flows and react to the what-if scenarios, but they are not a feed. Trade Winds is a visualization, not investment advice.
Who makes it
Trade Winds is built by Box Of Otters, an independent app and game studio in Redondo Beach, California. The whole site is a single self-contained page: three.js for the globe, d3 for the map projection, Natural Earth and NASA Blue Marble for the map data and imagery.
Sponsors and referral links
One sponsor line in the top bar keeps the site free. The "Trade on" buttons inside a stock's card are referral links: Trade Winds may earn a fee if you open an account, at no cost to you. They never change what the globe shows.
